Back to School Message

WCHS families,

As we embark on yet another year of learning and excitement at Wright City High School, I wanted to take a few moments to talk about some key points of emphasis for the 23-24 school year. As we resume school activities, we anticipate celebrating some commendable academic gains based on students' performance in the End of Course (EOC) exams. That being said we will also look to address certain activities that do not coincide with our students performing to the best of their abilities.

As a building we are asking that students have their cell phones put away during instructional time. Students may still use their devices during passing periods and at lunch. We believe this will help improve overall student performance.  We also recognize that the use of electronic cigarette devices or vaping has become a concern not just in our area but across the country. In response, we are establishing an educational and restorative approach in conjunction with our behavior guide in the hopes that students will become more informed about the potential health and wellness risks that these items produce.

Another item of note is the reestablishment of our attendance procedure that was suspended during the pandemic. Students that miss more than eight days of school in a semester could potentially lose credit for any class over that number. There is an appeals process for students over the attendance threshold and certified letters will be sent out to at 5, 7, and 9 absences. In addition there will be five Saturday attendance make up days each semester where students can recoup absences by attending from 8am to noon. Each Saturday attended makes up one absence.

The faculty and staff of Wright City High School look forward to partnering with families and students to have a great school year. It is our goal to provide the best possible educational and overall high school experience for our Wildcats. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year.

Repectfully,

Matt Brooks
Wright City High School Principal
